The New iPod Is Coming ... Officials Think

It has changed the satisfaction level of our commute. It has improved the rhythm with which we walk. It has changed the beat of our lives, and now, it's about to get better.

Though it is not official, those in the know say Apple is just 24 hours from announcing its latest gadget, a brand-new, souped-up iPod.

Not much is known about the new version — it is expected to be unveiled Wednesday — aside from the fact that the one you're holding in your hand right now will be outdated, to say the least.

It's been called one of the most significant "ah-ha" moments in innovation history.

Since the iPod's release in 2001, the hand-held music player has gone from a fun toy to a cultural icon.

"They have an incredible locked-down private type of release. Nobody knows for sure what's coming out in next couple of days," ABC News' technology contributor Becky Worley said.

But it may be time for a revamp. Last year Apple's iPod sales dipped for the first time since 2002.

"Steve Jobs knows how to build things people are excited about and then hype them up like a master showman," Worley said.

Anticipation abound, the public is furiously speculating about the newest iPod.

One man said he hopes the new device is "some sort of wireless, headless … iPod." While another says a "touch screen would be really helpful. Buttons get stuck."
